Fig Season

It's fig season, and my tree produced the largest fig it's ever had...plus many other not-so-huge figs. Unlike most figs, this kind turns lighter, not darker, as it ripens.

Ripe figs are very sweet. Thanks be to God who provides so many wonderful types of food.

So many Biblical thoughts on figs: the figs leaves Adam & Eve first tried to cover up in; the withered fig tree that produced no fruit, etc. When my mother-in-law still lived in New Orleans, she had a big fig tree in the backyard---it was a trick to get the good ones before the birds did or they fell and bruised. Anyway, my husband's deciding to take the call. It will be an adventure---of a lesser sort than becoming a foreign missionary (which I'd studied to do before meeting him), but moreso than staying here in our comfort zone with our comfortable congregation. Now for that secular job part...he has a lead to be the area director for Big Brothers/Big Sisters.

I had no idea figs looked like this. Thanks for the picture and discription!
