Abandoned Church

From Blog10

It stands a sign
    that faith once bloomed
    in fertile prairie hearts,
Strong souls who built
    a place apart,
    a sacred space
    for hymns and holiness
    and God's heard word--
Where prayer perfumed the air
    and rose to very heaven.

It stands a sign,
abandoned now to bird and vine,
    but pointing still to heaven.

Lord, hear the prayers they offered here
    and those we offer now:
Wean us from the finest things of time
and ready us for you...and only you.

"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
--Jesus, in Matthew 6:19-21.
