Memorial Day 2012

The last Monday in May is Memorial Day here in the USA.

From Blog12

I walk among the soldiers’ graves…
Some new, some old, some in-between…
And hear the wind that stirs the trees.

A colder wind blows through my soul,
With gusts of grief and might-have-been.
I see the love they never knew,
The handsome sons they never sired,
The wives and girlfriends weeping wild,
The parents’ hopes now sere and bare.

I walk among the soldiers’ graves
And pause to think and briefly pray.

It is better to go to the house of mourning
than to go to the house of feasting,
for this is the end of all mankind,
and the living will lay it to heart.

(Ecclesiastes 7:2 ESV)

Life without Christ

Worry, hurry, scurry.
Groping, hoping, coping.
Wary...very scary.
Schmoozing, boozing, losing.
Sighing, crying, dying.

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
(Romans 6:23 ESV)

Problems in "Paradise"

The Meal, 1891, by Paul Gauguin

The world thinks their place a paradise,
Endless summers, pleasure-filled.

They gaze right past the summer fruit,
Right on past the blessings
That pursue them day by day,
Seeing only troubles.

But godliness with contentment is great gain... (1 Timothy 6:6 ESV)

The Power of the Lord's Word

LORD, you spoke,
    Your Spirit moved,
        And chaos became order.

I don't know how.
    I don't know why--
But what you've done is obvious.

Still you speak,
    Your Spirit moves,
        And sinners become holy.

I don't know how.
    I don't know why--
But what you do is obvious.

For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. (2 Corinthians 4:6 ESV)

From Blog12
Caterpillar, you're a part
Of the Lord's eternal plan.
Dark and lowly at the start,
You'll get wings--and flowers scan.

If the Lord can take and use
Even little things like you,
Giving beauty--brigtest hues--
Then I know he'll use me, too.

I made the earth
and created man on it;

it was my hands that stretched out the heavens,
and I commanded all their host.

Here's My Heart

LORD, here's my heart,
My inmost part,
And here's my soul,
The breathing whole--
And here's my mind
(Take all You find),
And here's my strength
To any length.
LORD, none is mine.
All's Your design.
In love I give
You all, and live.

And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?”
Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

(Mark 12:28-31 ESV)
