The Lord's Table
As we gather at your table,
Here to eat the feast you've spread,
Lord, we know that you are able
To give more than wine and bread.
Wine and bread give strength and pleasure
And are signs both sure and true,
But we seek a richer treasure:
Fellowship, our Lord, with you.
We don't understand the fullness
Of your work within this act,
But obey you in our dullness
And--pure grace! You come in fact.
Laser grace--our eyes corrected,
Here we look and live, are new.
Pierced by love, by truth inspected,
Sin sliced off, we're one in You.
For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, "This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me." In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me." (1 Corinthians 11:23-25 ESV)
