God Gave Some as Teachers

Thank God for those who teach God’s word
With courage, skill and patient love—
Who don’t abuse the truth they’ve heard,
But take their orders from above.

Thank God for those whose lives display
Christ’s saving work at any length
To build His church on earth today—
To save by His almighty strength.

Then give such teachers honor due
To those who faithfully just serve
With motives that are clean and true.
Yes, give the honor they deserve.

Rewards for them, rewards for you,
Are never seen on earth today.
Those come when Jesus makes things new
And all His servants get their pay.

And he gave...teachers to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ...  (Ephesians 4:11-12 ESV)

I have long been troubled by the lack of focus on teaching when both I Timothy 3 and Titus 1 stress that the pastor, bishop, or elder must be apt to teach, while nothing is said of his ability to preach.

Donald Fishgrab, that's an angle I'd never thought of. Thanks for stretching my thinking.

The Bible also doesn't say that a pastor needs to be able to draw a big crowd, or bring in lots of money, or have an accredited education, or be able to become famous.
