Family memories lie in a pan
Like last night's stockings:
Uncles and brothers, sisters and aunts,
Needing a cleaning.
Business successes, proud graduations,
Babies and houses
Ready to wash
Or to toss out as compost.
Lifetimes of longings,
Hopes and achievements
Now merely clutter.
So, do you want them?
So teach us to number our days
that we may get a heart of wisdom. (Psalm 90:12)
If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. (Jesus, in Luke 14:26 ESV)
Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you. (Exodus 20:12 ESV)
I took the photo in an antique store.
