God in a Manger

Ancient of Days,
Maker of all,
You’re now so small
With infant ways.

Stronger than earth--
Tiny, yet great--
We celebrate
Your simple birth.

We are but mud,
Needing you now.
Rescue, somehow…
Though it’s through blood.

With your sharp sword
Some day you’ll reign,
But now we gain
Our swaddled Lord.

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. (Luke 2:11 ESV)

The card in the photo was made by my wife.

I was just thinking of "ancient of days" in my devotions yesterday. From the Micah 5:2 passage. Jesus the man was BORN in a Bethlehem stable as an infant. But Jesus, the Person, CAME into our world as the Ancient of Days, the all-existant One, the everlasting I AM. Almighty God as a slippery, scrunched baby Jewish boy. What condensation! What an act of love and grace for his created beings! How we should love him!
