Never Stop - A Song for Children

This song went along with the Bible story of Peter and John being put into prison for preaching about Jesus, then being released by an angel, going back to preaching about Jesus, being taken to court and warned not to preach about him, and then continuing to preach.

This original song is public domain. You can use it in any way you wish.

Do you need a faithful priest
   To offer up a sacrifice
For your sins--the worst, the least--
Completely, so it's not done twice?

God's provided such a one,
Who's fully God and fully man--
His own sole-begotten son,
The great, full priest whose work will stand.

He is priest, and He is king.
He's risen, and He'll never die.
Christ, who'll rule--yes, everything:
The earth is his, and his the sky.

Come, then, running to this priest
   Abandoning your many sins.
Christ will spread a welcome feast.
Believe, be clean, and life begins.

So also Christ did not glorify Himself so as to become a high priest, but He who said to Him, "YOU ARE MY SON, TODAY I HAVE BEGOTTEN YOU." (Hebrews 5:5 NASB)

Christ at a Distance

Brooklyn Museum: Stormy Sky over Landscape with Distant Church

To see Christ from a distance,
To know him from afar,
To satisfy our curiosity
But never die with him--

Is still to be a sinner,
Is still to live in lies,
Is still to follow Satan,
Denying Jesus Christ.

Yet He still gives forgiveness
To failing, fallen men
If they will turn from self-made ways
To trust and follow Him.

And all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes came together...Now the chief priests and the whole Council were seeking testimony against Jesus to put him to death, but they found none. (Mark 14:53, 55 ESV)

These priests and elders and scribes had
  • The right scriptures
  • The right Temple
  • The right kinds of animals for sacrifices.
Their religion was right in hundreds of ways, but they missed
  • The One to whom the scriptures pointed
  • The One whose body was the true Temple
  • The One who was the true Lamb of God
  • The only One who ever fully kept the whole Law.
They claimed to have the true God--and, in a sense, they did--but they didn't really have him. How tragic if all of a man's--or a woman's--religion is useless.

A true and righteous Jewish man
Awaiting God's Messiah stood
Within the Temple's holy gates
Expecting Consolation 'til
At last he saw the infant light,
The rescuer of Israel.

He sang in praise and sweet release,
Announcing it to all around.
And Simeon went home to die--
To die in peace. He'd seen the Christ.
Now, will you sing with Simeon,
In joy because Messiah's come?

Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ. (Luke 2:25-26 ESV)

At our church last night, Dr. Stephen Presley pointed out that before Christ came, faith meant waiting. Afterward, faith meant following.

Age-Long War

Mighty angels are at war.
Who will win the golden prize?
Satan seeks to kill the Lord--
Snuff the Christ and rule by lies.

Michael and his angels fight.
They defend the holy birth,
And they win with truth and light.
Satan's crew's cast down to earth.

Satan still will press his war,
Pushing men toward every sin,
Raging hard against the Lord--
Bitter that the Lord will win.

Satan's hatred heaps up guilt--
Damns his evil, so-proud head.
All the forces he has built--
All will burn among the dead.

Countless ages in dark fire
Never will erase his stain.
Saints, though get their hearts' desire,
And the Lord Himself will reign.

And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns, and on his heads seven diadems. His tail swept down a third of the stars of heaven and cast them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she bore her child he might devour it. She gave birth to a male child, one who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron, but her child was caught up to God and to his throne, and the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, in which she is to be nourished for 1,260 days.

Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon. And the dragon and his angels fought back, but he was defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world--he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.    (Revelation 12:3-9 ESV)

Even heaven's not a restful place unless holiness rules; unless the Lord is obeyed.
