It seems my drain's been hoarding hair
Since when I wasn't gray.
Yes, year by year hair gathered there--
Though not a hair a day.

My sin can be like cast-off hair
And clog my soul's bright way
Unless confessing all in prayer
It's washed away each day.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9 ESV)

Forgiveness comes through Jesus Christ, whom we trust. The question isn't whether we've remembered to confess every sin. It's whether we're agreeing with God about our sins--turning from sin, acknowledging that we've been guilty and that Jesus gives forgiveness. Don't trust in how well you've confessed sin. Trust in Jesus Christ.

Enslave me so that I'll be free.
Defeat me so that I will win.
Kill me so that I will live.
Take all I have, that I'll be rich.
Strip bare my sin, that I may stand all-clean.

Such awesome, strange accounting
Of your divine arithmetic!

For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
(1 Corinthians 1:25 ESV)

Late Winter, Early Summer

The winter ended suddenly.
Just yesterday, I scraped some frost.
Today, a tee shirt was too warm,
And so I shed it in the sun.
The bees are busy in the tree;
The roses and the fig are pruned.
My wife raked leaves from crevices,
And then I mowed them into mulch.
The calendar says winter still,
But early summer has my heart.

...for behold, the winter is past; the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.  (Song of Solomon 2:11-12 ESV)

Grant deeper repentance,
   More hatred of sin.
Grant more depth of knowledge,
   More growth in your love.

Grant fresh love of scripture
   And unfettered prayers.
Grant growth in obedience,
   Wisdom and love.

Make me to know your ways, O LORD; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long.  (Psalm 25:4-5 ESV)

Sober Sacrifice

Jesus, man, fully bore
The pain of all our sin.
Jesus, God, fully bore
The guilt of all our sin.

Without drugs, split with pain,
Our Lord was crucified.
Sinless Lamb, for our stain,
He hung and bled and died.

Buried, then, in a tomb
Well-guarded, sealed away,
Body dead, in that room—
Flat, waiting 'til third day.

We have won, thought his foes,
Until the third day came.
He’s alive! Christ arose!
And nothing’s now the same!

When he died—God’s blood spilled—
There was a cosmic strife.
But he rose! Death’s been killed.
It’s swallowed up in life.

And they offered him wine mixed with myrrh, but he did not take it. And they crucified him... (Mark 15:23-24 ESV)
