Do You Love Me More Than These?

Jesus questioned Simon once,
"Do you love me more than these?"
Peter’s answer became clear:
Yes, he loved his Lord the most,
But I sometimes love my fish.

Lord, you’ve seen my misplaced love—
Love for wealth and earth’s success,
Love for food, a belly-full.
Love for signs, not just my Lord.
Love for shiny, dying fish.

Burn away that fishy love.
Let me feed the lambs you love.

When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” (John 21:15 ESV)

It's also very possible that Jesus was really asking Peter, "Do you love me more than these other disciples love me?" If so, he wanted Peter to realize that what was important was not the comparative strength of Peter's love, but the reality of it.
